From the Foothills of the Alps to Wooster Pike: Luciano Barbera Comes to Trevor Furbay

Some clothing announces itself. Luciano Barbera doesn’t have to.

This week, we’re delighted to welcome a brand that is new to Trevor Furbay and one we’ve been eager to share with you: Luciano Barbera. For two days only, the collection comes to our Cincinnati store for a special trunk show. It’s a chance to see, touch, and try on some of the finest Italian tailoring there is, with the time and attention you’d expect from us.

What to expect at the trunk show

A trunk show is the best way to experience a collection like this. You’ll see a wider range than we could ever stock on the floor, and we’ll help you find the pieces that suit your wardrobe and your life, whether that means a jacket in a rich woven cloth, a sharp suit, or something that becomes your new go-to layer for fall.

A story that starts with cloth

To understand Luciano Barbera, you have to start in Biella, a small town at the foot of the Italian Alps that has long been the heart of Italian textile excellence. Its pure mountain waters are prized for refining fine fabrics, giving them a softness and quality that are hard to replicate.

It was here, in 1949, that Luciano’s father, Carlo Barbera, established his own wool mill. Carlo was already a respected textile designer, and the family’s name became synonymous with exceptional cloth. Luciano grew up inside that world, and it shaped his eye for color, proportion, and style.

In the 1960s, a photograph of Luciano in a beautifully cut suit made from his family’s fabrics appeared in L’Uomo Vogue. It caught the attention of Murray Pearlstein, the owner of Louis, Boston, who was so taken with it that in 1968 he flew to Biella and became Luciano’s first customer. Encouraged to create a complete menswear brand, Luciano launched his first collection in 1970. Its calling cards were quality fabrics, memorable color combinations, and thoughtful construction, all with an unmistakably Italian sense of ease.

Entirely made in Italy, and it means it

Luciano Barbera holds to a promise that is increasingly rare: every garment is entirely manufactured in Italy, from fabric to final finishing. The label says so, because the brand believes customers have a right to know exactly where their clothes come from. It treats that craftsmanship as an art form, knowledge passed down through generations. Its guiding idea is simple: the right materials first, and price second.

Because the brand was born as a mill brand, cloth is its soul. The result is clothing meant to be worn for years, developing its own character along the way.

Still a family affair

Today, Luciano Barbera remains a family business. Luciano is part-owner, his daughter Carola serves as Creative Director and Managing Partner, and his son Lodovico is the brand’s Global Brand Ambassador. That continuity is part of what we love about it: a house that keeps evolving without forgetting where it began.

Stop in for a few minutes or stay a while. We’ll be here both days, ready to show you the collection and help you find something you’ll love. Come discover Italian craftsmanship with a story worth wearing.
